Create a Homebrew Campaign | #14: Writing a Character Arc
Today, we’re going to have one last session regarding players and how they can shape your world and story. Specifically, I’ll be talking about character arcs, which are sections of your campaign’s story that focus on one or two of the characters, giving them the spotlight. I’m going to talk about why they matter and give my suggestions for creating effective, impactful character arcs that are just as powerful (if not more so) than the main story.
The Stories I Loved MOST in 2021
Today, I’ll be talking about the top three stories that I experienced in 2021. These can be across any medium, books, movies, games, etc. I’ll list off some honorable mentions to start, then I’ll get into the top three. It’s important to note that I am selecting from stories I experienced for the first time in 2021, not necessarily stories that came out, last year. Especially since I had some catching up to do with books and the like, I mainly read, watched, or played stories that were a year or two old, rather than new releases. That said, let’s get into my list, beginning with honorable mentions! Every story I mention will be linked if you’d like to experience it for yourself.
Book Review | Jade City by Fonda Lee
ve been excited to read for quite a while. I often see it mentioned by people who enjoyed Evan Winter’s books, so I came in with the expectation that I’d enjoy it, too. This was a pretty quick read compared to most of the books I read last year—I think I had it finished in a little over ten hours—however, that’s not because of the length, but rather because of just how much I enjoyed it. This was a serious pageturner… but how does it stand up critically?
Create a Homebrew Campaign | #13: Writing the Campaign Arc
A homebrew campaign has two crucial components: the world and the story. At this point in the series, we’ve already built a beautiful, vibrant, living world that is populated with unique characters and filled with civilizations and stories waiting to be encountered. We’ve written one arc, the first arc of the campaign, and I’ve talked about one-shots. Now, however, it’s time to look at the most critical part of the story: the central arc, or the arc that covers the entirety of the campaign. Sure, there will be other stories and some detours along the way, but this is the trunk of the tree from which all of the branches extend. In fact, that’s how I want you to think of this session: we’re building the trunk of the tree.
My (Current) 2022 Reading List
Today, I thought it would be fun to talk about my current reading list for 2022. Doing TBRs has never really appealed to me for this channel, even though I tend to enjoy that content from creators I love. It isn’t the sort of thing I want to do regularly, because I have so much else that I want to talk about. However, I think that an annual TBR could be fun! That’s what I’m setting out to do today. In this post, I’ll be talking about all of the books that I plan to read in 2022. Here we go!
Game Review | Psychonauts 2
I tell you this not to brag (although, heck yeah, I’m bragging—I helped this game get made!), but to let you know that I came into this game with a bit of bias. I was prepared to not enjoy it as much as I’d enjoyed the first game given that I’ve changed (and so has my taste in games), but my expectation was that I would love the game equally as much as I did the first. I was pre-conditioned to love Psychonauts 2, but I tried to give it a fair shake and aim to be fully honest in this review of the game.
